Marques Brownlee (MKBHD) asks the question that’s been haunting Sony

Why don’t people buy Xperia phones?

Mega tech reviewer and seemingly all-around nice guy, Marques Brownlee, has a new video about Sony that focuses on the company’s smartphones. Where PlayStation and Alpha get no shortage of attention from tech reviewers, vloggers, and consumers, Xperia, for all intents and purposes, is a dead brand. Or about as close as you can get to it. When you’re selling in the low millions, in a year, if Xperia were part of any other company, the plug would have likely been pulled.

If you at all care about Xperia, this is a great video to watch because there’s a lot to be liked about Sony phones, yet all chatter regarding them ends only a day after new models are announced. I’ll give you a hint at why — I covered the Xperia 5 II announcement a week late, not because I was too busy, but because I, the person who runs a website focused on Sony products, didn’t even notice the announcement. Now expand that to most consumers.

You’d be shocked, or likely not, that when I probe my friends and family about Xperia phones, the first reaction that I almost always get is, “Sony makes phones?” MKBHD tackles this in his latest.

Yeah, it’s that bad and that’s a shame.
