Many had wondered if prominent YouTuber Marques Brownlee would publicly discuss the current global protests in support of Black Lives Matter, and as you’d likely guessed by the title, he has. But there in that question lies the problem — in the online world, MKBHD is a celebrity thanks to his deep insight into tech and slick videos that have garnered him now over 11 million followers. But he’s not just an influential YouTuber, he’s an influential ‘black’ YouTuber, something he talks about in this video.

If something happens in the ‘white’ community, no one is looking to prominent YouTubers for answers or even reflection, but as a known ‘black’ YouTuber, people have wanted MKBHD to speak on the matter. Imagine the pressure that puts on someone in his position — to be a voice that needs to speak not only for himself but now for an entire population when maybe all he wants to do is make tech videos. I surely can’t, and I don’t think the majority of you can either.
