PS4 price drop around the corner and a new gold model?

The only question is why

Come E3, don’t be surprised if an official price drop hits the PS4. From time to time, we’ve seen the 1TB Black Slim for $299 and the 500GB model for $259 hit lower price points but that’s never been an indication of an official price shift. Now it’s likely that PS4 in 1TB will be priced at $249 which means Sony might dare to bring their successful console to the magical $199 price point with the 500GB model (though I’m betting it will hold to $229 or perhaps $219). Another possibility is that they’ll phase out the 500GB variant, though I highly doubt that to be the case.

Perhaps the oddest part of this rumor is the new color Sony might introduce alongside the price drop. As you can see from the above photo, that’s a Gold 1TB PS4 at Target with a $249 price tag. Price drop aside, was anyone really clamoring for a golden colored PS4? Because that looks hideous and I’m not sure who would want to have a gold color console in their beautiful home theater area or dorm room for that matter.

All of this of course begs the question, could the PS4 Pro see a price drop as well? If I were a betting man, I’d say $349 seems fairly reasonable. The big mystery going forward will be how aggressive Microsoft prices Xbox Scorpio. If it’s north of $500, Sony can continue to milk PS4 Pro at the $399 price point but anything lower than that and a $349 price tag begins to make a lot more sense.

Would you buy a gold PS4?
