For their 2020 lineup, Sony has all sorts of new TVs to drool over — from 4K OLED to 8K sets, if high-end is your taste than Sony has something they’d like to sell you. But not everyone wants an OLED, nor is everyone onboard yet with 8K — to them, I say, have you heard of the X950H?

Unveiled, though not on display at CES 2020, the X950 series I believe is the sweet spot of Sony TVs, which is why I purchased the X950E myself a few years back. Like its predecessors, it features just about everything you want and adds a sprinkle of more on top of it to make it a worthy TV in your living room for years to come. That includes broad 4K HDR support:

  • HDR
  • HLG
  • Dolby Vision

Those, mixed with features like Netflix Calibrate Mode and IMAX Enhanced mean that the content you’ll consume will be seen in the way it was intended from the people who actually made the shows you love. To add to it, you’ll find an all-new processor — the Picture Processor X1 Ultimate that powers the Full Array LED TV.

Any kind of content can be upconverted to lifelike 4K1 resolution with Sony’s unique features. Our Picture Processor X1 Ultimate, twice as fast as the X1 Extreme, precisely analyzes and processes data to enrich 4K pictures with real-world detail and texture. Even images filmed in 2K and Full HD are upscaled close to 4K by 4K X-Reality PRO using a unique 4K database. Resolution of each subject is then optimized by Object-based Super Resolution to reproduce virtually real-world textures.

Sitting back and enjoy your TV is also a lot easier with the X950H series, thanks to Sony’s new Acoustic Multi-Audio speakers,

“Hi new TV remote! 👋”

built-in Dolby Atmos support, an all-new backlit remote, and Apple AirPlay 2 support which allows you to stream games, movies, music, and photos easily from your iOS device. And with HomeKit, you can easily integrate the X950H into custom scenes¹ that will dim your lights, fire up the TV, and do whatever else you can imagine. But really, can we go back and talk about that new remote? I think this deserves a ‘finally.’

Like its predecessor, this year’s models also include Sony’s cable management system that makes it easier to connect devices to the TV without having them show, like an animal. If you’re a bit of a 🤓 when it comes to cables showing, you’ll love this, trust me.

The X950H features an all-new design that extends to its front, with a flush, much thinner bezel, a less monolithic stand, and simple but clean rear. Personally, I love the bold bezel that came with the X950E, but that didn’t allow for soundbars, making this new design much more functional for households that don’t plan on wall-mounting their TV. I equally loved the back design of my model over this, but I’m fully aware that most people don’t give a damn about how the rear of their TVs looks like. 🤷‍♂️

Sony has yet to announce when the XBR-X950H will go on sale and at what price points, but once the series does launch, you’ll be able to have your pick of 49-, 55-, 65-, 75-, and 85-inches.

What do you think of the X950H? Does it offer everything you’d want in a TV?

¹ There’s also support for Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
