Will arrive as early as April

Though it was assumed that they’d eventually arrive in Japan, when Sony unveiled the pro-oriented Xperia 1 II (read mark 2) and Xperia 10 II, they were only announced for select countries in Europe and North America. Now Japanese telecom giant NTT docomo has revealed that both phones will be available on their network and much sooner than many had expected. From XperiaBlog:

The Xperia 1 II (SO-51A) on docomo will launch in three colours (Black, White, Purple) and will cost 123,552 yen (£970, €1045, $1120). We would expect a higher price in western markets, as the Japanese version of the Xperia 1 II has a slightly weaker spec (128GB internal storage vs 256GB in the global model).

NTT docomo will also launch the Xperia 10 II super-midranger in four colours (Black, White, Mint, Blue) and will be released in late May 2020.

Neither phone was expected to arrive till summer, so it’s unclear if this sooner-than-expected release will result in Xperia 1 II and Xperia 10 II also coming to other territories early or if this pertains to Japan only. Though both phones seem pretty stellar and finally offer many features fans have been looking for, their timing, no matter if late spring or early summer, is unfortunate. With the world still dealing with the spreading COVID-19 pandemic, the last thing on the minds of many is new smartphones, let alone premium flagship models.
