Sony Xperia 1 II priced for Europe

As expected, it’s not cheap

With Xperia 1 II now out in Japan, Sony has its eyes set on Europe and the US. Here in the States, the flagship phone is available for pre-order with a $1,200 price tag. In Europe, the same is mostly true with the phone carrying a €1,199 price attached to it. One difference seems to be some pre-orders offering the well-reviewed Sony wireless 1000XM3 headphones for free, but that doesn’t appear to be the case in every country. Even in Germany where the free headphones were offered, that pairing has since been pulled. Either the entire thing was an error, or the listing was published before Sony was ready to announce it.

Sony has offered free headphones with numerous flagship phones over the years to make their higher price tag more barabel, and I suspect this is the case as well. At €1,199, free noise-cancelling headphones or not, it’s certainly a ‘flagship’ price, and with many still quarantined globally and a lack of interest from consumers towards 5G, Sony, who has been unable to grow their smartphone sales may struggle mightily with this phone.

What do you think of the Xperia 1 II price?
