Sony Z9R speakers give Z9F sound bar wireless rears

Allow for true 5.1 surround sound

The Sony Z9F sound bar is shaping up to be a fantastic addition to the company’s home audio department. Not only does the sound bar offer Dolby Atmos like the ST5000, it also has the capability to connect with rear speakers for a true 5.1 surround sound, something the ST5000 can’t do.

Specifically, the Z9R units connect wirelessly to the Z9F sound bar to create the immersive sound experience which can be done either via Sony’s SongPal app on iOS/Android or by a physical button (called Link) on the small rears themselves, making the process even easier for those not wanting to fuss with additional apps.

It’s worth noting though that as it stands, the Z9R is only compatible with the Z9F sound bar and not the NT5 sound bar which also supports wireless speakers. Wouldn’t be a Sony product without some kind of bizarre twist or omission.

The two wall mountable rear speakers (50W total power) will be released this Spring for $299.
